Primary interests are focused on the historical research of the Melvill-Tomlin collection and archive, including: research and imaging of historic type specimens with publication on the online Mollusca Types Catalogue; research into specific collectors such as C.M.F. Ancey and T.M.A. Monterosato; working towards online access and transcription of the J. R. le B. Tomlin archive.

Taxonomy and functional morphology of the Bivalvia. Specialist taxonomic interests the Arcoidea, Thyasiroidea and Solemyoidea. Preparation of identification tools for the shallow and deep-sea faunas of the British Isles, Red Sea, Arabian Sea and Western Indian Ocean.

Expertise & Interests:
Collections-based non-marine malacology, from urban Wales to tropical rainforests. Research includes past and present changes in the British fauna (especially slugs), Afrotropical molluscs (especially Streptaxidae, Urocyclidae), and applications of mollusc taxonomy. A highlight of recent years has been the opportunity to work with colleagues on shell collections around the UK.

Specialist in scientific imaging using advanced digital imaging techniques including Photomicroscopy, SEM, 3D scanning and modelling.
