Notes
Originally named Conus catenatus Sowerby (3rd), 1879. Renamed Conus desmotus by Tomlin in 1937 as it was preoccupied by C. catenatus Sowerby (1st), 1850. This specimen is therefore the holotype for both names. Tomlin, 1937: “Type in coll. Tomlin.” There is more discussion of this name in Petit, R. 2009.
