Notes
Melvill & Standen, 1904 refer to this variety as being rare and describe it as "A pale pinkish-livid or grey shell, from Karachi", however, this is not clear evidence that only one shell was used for the description as the term 'shell' is often synonymous with 'species' or 'variety'. The Manchester Museum specimen has a Melvill label and is from the type locality with Townsend as the collector, but it does not have type written on the label. Both Trew, 1987 and McGhie, 2008 listed this specimen as a holotype; in accordance with ICZN Art. 74.6 this is an indirect lectotype selection by inference of holotype (Trew, 1987: 56).
