Notes
Melvill & Standen, 1895: We received the specimens from Mr. Robert Cairns, of Ashton-under-Lyne, just as Mr. Hadfield had forwarded them to him in shell-sand, and are glad of the opportunity of connecting his name with this new form, in slight recognition of the services he has rendered us. The locality and collector information has been inferred from the paper as there is no information present with the specimen. Melvill & Standen, 1895 refer to "several specimens, but only a few full grown" in the original description so this specimen must be considered a syntype. It has been listed as such by both Trew, 1987 and McGhie, 2008, although they have suggested that it is the figured specimen. There is no indication on the specimen label that this is the figured material (as there is with other Manchester Museum material) and comparison to the original figure is not conclusive. Other type material listed in Trew, 1987 and McGhie, 2008: 6 syntypes NMW.1955.158.00584 8 possible syntypes EE.7678
