Notes
Melvill & Standen, 1914 refer to using several specimen in the original description when they write "This is a very delicate white shell, of extreme fragility, so much so that nearly all the specimens have been fractured in the course of microscopical examination". These shells in Manchester Museum are therefore syntypes. There are two specimens in the lot, 'type' has been written on the label by Melvill and they are from the type locality and collected by R. Vallentin. Both Trew, 1987 and McGhie, 2008 have listed a figured syntype and 4 syntypes in Manchester Museum, McGhie more specifically giving the accession numbers "Figured syntype EE.7733 and 4 syntypes (2 single valves) EE.7734". However, there are only two specimens in this lot which have been given accession numbers EE.7733 and EE.7734.1 and there is nothing on the label to indicate that either are the figured specimen. Neither look particularly like the original illustration either, so it is questionable to list them as such. Within this lot there is also a label stating that 1 specimen was sent to the Smithsonian (presumably USNM 708897 as listed by Trew, 1987). Manchester also have another part of this series under accession EE.7734.2 which is listed as having 1 shell and 2 valves present, but it was not viewed for this project. Other type material listed by Trew, 1987 & McGhie, 2008: 1 x syntype NMW.1955.158.713 1 x syntype USNM 708897
