Notes
Palmer, 1958 states that the holotype would be at the NHM as this is where the Mazatlan material was deposited, however the original description does not refer to one specific specimen, in fact Carpenter mentions a number of different specimens that he based his observations on. There is reference on the USNM webpage to a syntype lot (USNM 716016). Leeds specimens have a Hanley label, are from the type locality and from Carpenter's collection (Hanley states on the label 'from Carpenter'). There is no mention of type on the original label and there is no reference to the species in Hanley's handwritten catalogue. The Leeds lot is a possible syntype but it would be worth researching further as it may well turn out to be part of the original type series.
