Benson, 1862 states that the specimen(s) were from W. Theobald 'Collegit W. Theobald' but does not specifically mention a single type specimen. Johnson, 1971 states that there is a 'type' in the NHM (BMNH_1964358) but does not distinguish what kind. The Leeds specimen is from the Hanley collection, it has a Hanley label and states 'from Theobald'. It is from the general type locality but the label is not specific. There is no mention of type in the Hanley catalogue but also states that the specimen was from Theobald. There is a modern label stating paratype. Based on this evidence, the Leeds specimen is a syntype.
