Notes
Coan & Kabat, 2012 state: NHMUK 196244, three syntypes (smallest figured by Hanley and by Reeve, 1863: pl. 10, fig. 32a; another syntype figured by Reeve, 1863: pl. 10, fig. 32b). Leeds Museum 1957.173.15189, syntype; Leeds Museum 1957.173.25818, possible syntype. Leeds material has a Hanley label but no reference to type. The species name appears in Hanley's handwritten catalogue, no reference to type, but lists the initials LM and LCM. Modern label with the specimen queries whether this is the figured type from Hanley's Recent Bivalves. Note: Coan & Kabat, 2012 quote the author date as 1844, listing Hanley, 1844. Proc. Zool. Soc. [12]137: 109-110. However, the page numbers for the name are 160-161, so cannot have appeared in that part of the journal. It appears in Proc. Zool. Soc. [12]140: 159-162 (published Feb. 1845), changing the author date to 1845. This is the date also quoted on the WoRMS database. A figure was published in Hanley's Recent Bivalves, pl. 16, fig. 20 (published 1844) without a description; the plate explanation was published in the same publication in 1846.
