Specimen matches size of fig. 56 in Thesaurus Conchyliorum but specimen is faded and not convinced that the patterning matches. Label from Marrat's label list 'OLIVA violacea, Marrat'. Label from Marrat's label list 'OLIVA violacea, Marrat, California'. Label in Tomlin's writing 'Type + 3 others of violacea M. said to be a var. either of reticularis Lam. or of spicata Röding.' Ford 1953 first uses Holotype.
