Marrat 1877 states that 2 shells were collected and that Trice Martin has the second and only other specimen known'. One is in Marrat's colln, National Museum Liverpool and the other in Tomlin's collection, National Museum Wales (labelled as a Paratype) from exact location and from same ex collector. MacMillan handwritten label ''Mr F.P. Marrat exhibited the following - the type specimen of Gladius martinii, Marrat, a new shell from Cebu, Philippine Islands, from the collection of Mrs S. Trice Martin of Manchester, recently figured and described by Mar Marrat in the Leeds Quarterly Journal of Conchology and presented by him to the Free Museum' Ex Proc Lit & Phil Soc L'pool No. 32, P. LX 1878.'
