Notes
Wood & Gallichan, 2008: Type material: Syntype:- ‘Type’ NMW.1955.158.24202 1 spec. (e) Type locality: Albany, Eastern Cape Colony [from the collection of Brockton Tomlin, Esq.] Type evidence: In his original publication Ancey (1892b: 125) indicated that the type material came from Tomlin’s collection; he also implied that only one shell was seen by referring to ‘this shell’ and ‘our shell’ (Ancey, 1892b:126). The specimen at NMW (Tomlin’s collection) has a type label (although we are unsure who wrote it) and it measures close to the shell size given in the paper. If Ancey’s reference to ‘this shell’ is deemed sufficient then he was implying the presence of a unique type. As this is open to interpretation we list the NMW specimen as a syntype.
